Podcasts are a source of entertainment, but they can also be a valuable source for education. They are perfect for that long commute or for doing things around the house. I have found many great new ideas and advice for not only my choir conducting, but also for my life as a whole. The following is a list of my top five podcasts for choir conductors. 1. Choir ChatChoir Chat by John Hughes offers a wealth of knowledge for choir conductors. Although the main focus is on college choir, the information can be applied to any level group. He focuses on interviewing the top professionals in the choir world. The interviews are very content driven and are packed full of insightful ideas about composing, conducting, repertoire selection, and teaching styles. His podcasts are released once a week. 2. Find Your ForteFind Your Forte by Ryan Guth takes a different look at the choir world. Coming from an entrepreneur background, Ryan offers real world tactics to improve not only your income, but also your life as a whole. His main audience consists of high school and middle school music teachers. He interveiws both top level professionals and everyday teachers in the music field. His podcasts are released twice a week. 3. Choral HistoryChoral History by Joshua Bronfman is a laid back conversation with mostly college choir conductors. The interview style is similar to talking with a friend over coffee or drinks. There is a lot of humor and great information about different types of rehearsal styles and choir programs across the country. His podcasts are released inconsistently, but are worth going back through his archives. 4. The Dave Ramsey ShowThe Dave Ramsey Show is a podcast version of his radio program. It features people calling in to get advice about their money and lifestyle choices. It has almost nothing to do with choir. However, I chose this podcast because it can help choir conductors manage their money. It can also get people to think of creative solutions to earn extra income and cut their cost of living. His podcast are released as three episodes every day Monday through Friday. 5. The Choir ConductorThe Choir Conductor by Zach Thompson is a podcast that interviews everyday music teachers, musicians, and composers. The conversations offer great advice and information to choir conductors and music educators of all levels. The podcast will be available on iTunes starting August 30th. Even though I am shamelessly plugging my own podcast, I truly think that it will be a valuable resource for choir conductors. Click here to find out why I decided to start this podcast. New episodes will be released once a week.
