Teaching
Zachary Thompson is the High School and Middle School Choir and Worship Leadership teacher at Covenant Day School in Matthews North Carolina. His choirs have been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Florida Music Educators Association Conference, and Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Prior to moving to Florida, he was the teacher of choral music at Sebring High School in Sebring, Florida and INVEST Collegiate Charter School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Education He holds a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, graduating summa cum laude. During his tenure at APSU he was the graduate assistant for the choral department He holds a Music Education degree from Slippery Rock University, Pennsylvania, graduating summa cum laude. While at Slippery Rock, he was a student conductor for both the University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. In addition to conducting on several concerts he conducted works with the Concert Choir at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association 2011 Annual Conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Church Previously moving to North Carolina, he was the choir director for St. John United Methodist Church in Sebring, Florida. At St. John, he directs the Chancel Choir, Handbell Choir, and Praise Band. His additional church music positions include: Music Director at St. Agnes Episcopal Church in Sebring, FL, the Tenor Section Leader for the Chancel Choir of Sharon Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC and for Tenor Section Leader for the Trinity Episcopal Church Choir in Clarksville, TN. May 2014 Community He was Assistant Conductor of the Young Voices of the Carolinas in Charlotte, NC and the Director of the Community School of the Arts Chorus in Clarksville, TN. Conducting Symposium He has been selected as a conductor for several Master Classes and Choral Conducting Symposiums including: Halifax Summer Choral Conducting Symposium, Toronto Mendelssohn Choral Conductors’ Symposium, Berkshire Choral Festival Apprentice in Maynooth, Ireland, Tennessee Music Educators Association Student Conducting Workshop, and the American Choral Directors Association Voices United Conducting Master Class in Pennsylvania. Singer He is a member of the semi-professional choir Vox and the Sharon Presbyterian Church Choir in Charlotte, NC. He was a member of the Nashville Symphony Chorus and the Gateway Chamber Chorus in Tennessee. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, New York City as part of the world premier of Flowers over the Graves of War by James Eakin. He has studied musical theater in London, England, and has appeared in many musical theater productions ranging from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” to “Fiddler On the Roof.” Family He lives in Matthews, North Carolina with his wife Andrea, daughters Elena and Olivia, and dog Jasper. |
